Director General of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei today announced the launch of a series of artistic, cultural and heritage events in the Western Region, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi as part of the celebrations that mark the thirty-seventh anniversary of the UAE National Day.

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage had completed its preparations for the huge events, which include the epic "Zayed and the Dream", the first theatre stage work of its kind, which tells the story of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE.

The artistic musical play, directed by Abdulhalim Caracalla, will be on show on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December, 2008.

"'Zayed and the Dream' has both artistic and historical values," noted Mazrouei.

Also as part of the National Day celebrations, the official opening of the Jahili Fort will be held in Al Ain City on the 3rd of December 2008, after the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage ended its rehabilitation program there, to preserve the structure of the building's historical and cultural values and make it an attractive tourist destination.

The project provides a new information centre for tourists, a hall for artistic and cultural events, a permanent exhibition on the traveller Mubarak bin London (Wilfred Thesiger), and an audio-visual presentation that reviews the history and development of Al Ain.

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, in coordination with schools, colleges and other educational institutes in the state, is organising on Monday the 1st of December 2008 a rich and diverse cultural event, which includes: poetry recital by renowned UAE poets and a show displaying a set of craft products that reflect the heritage of the Western Region.

People with special needs at the Ghayathi humanitarian centre will be making their own contributions of henna craft and traditional dishes preparations as part of their participation at the event.

There will also be a screening of falconry films on the hunting trips made by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as well as highlights of the efforts made by the Department Intangible Heritage in the registration of falconry as a world heritage at the UNESCO. There will also be camel displays, traditional dancing and games involving college teachers and students.

The National Day celebrations will also include many concerts in the Western Region, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, which will involve many famous pop stars from the Arab World.

"December the 2nd has brought many changes that the people of the UAE today, after 37 years of progress, should be proud of," said Mazrouei.

"The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, almost three years old, will continue working on and organising successful cultural projects, with more resolve and determination," he vowed.

"Our expectations are great. Our level of ambition equals our love for our country and culture," noted Mazrouei.
