How to Play Camel Polo?
The game is designed to run the team through a training session where the participants will be taught and equipped with all of the necessary skills to enable them to participate in the final ‘knock-out tournament’.
The training will consist of the polo mallet swing and technique for hitting the ball together with tuition on how to successfully ride and steer the camels.
Each team of five players will be supplied with 3 camels – one participant will sit in front of the hump and steer whilst his or her team mate will sit behind the hump and hit the ball- which will in effect be a beach ball for more achievable results. After each ‘chukka’ team mates must swap over, as well as swap goal ends.
The rules will follow the traditional game played on horses with the following additions-
1- During each segment of play every camel is allowed up to 2 ‘lie downs’ which only adds to the entertainment.
2-A goal can be scored by the player hitting the ball or the camel kicking it through the goal posts.
3-Each camel will be accompanied by a trainer on-foot who will have a lead rein attached to the camel but is only there for assistance and in no way allowed to interfere with the play . – the trainer himself must wear the same team shirt as his camels jockeys as he is a member of the team.
The duration for your group of 35 will be around 3 hours and 50 pax 3.5 - 4 hours
I will send some menu's from the Desert Palm
There will be a prize giving at the end of the match
All 12 polo-playing camels, selected for their size speed and ability, receive hours of training every day by two specialized coaches over recent months to reach the peak of fitness and skill they demonstrate on the polo field.
Adrian Sime, manager, Business Development at Dnata Travel Services, said: "Dnata is always looking for ways to enhance our range of products and services. It is important that visitors to Dubai can enjoy a variety of different experiences and that is why we have decided to add camel polo to our portfolio.
The new activity takes place at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club at Arabian Ranches.
He added: “Camel Polo is the ideal team building activity. We structure our camel polo experience to include a training session, in which clients are shown some basic skills, and then it’s time to put those skills into action with a match
"There are always two people on the camel – one to maneuver the camel and the other to play the polo – so we can have two participants per camel or one participant plus a ‘driver’.
“We are looking forward to welcoming groups from across the globe to Dubai to participate in this unique activity.” Travel & Culture Services has special ties with DNATA to offer this unique experience. Please contact us to reserve a tour of Camel Polo today
